8-Acre Field describes the path I mow around my eight-acre field, and a series of interventions I make in the landscape. Inspired by work of Gabriel Orozco included in the Havana Biennale, I walked my path and spruced it up a bit . . . then my dog barked and i made another intervention that was completely irrational.
8-Acre Field, 140″ x 9′, made up of eighteen images and text is presented here as one installation view and eighteen individual detail views.
The text reads: The other day I heard Gracie barking furiously at something over by the grape arbor so I went outside to take a look. It was the snapping turtle making her way back up to the pond. I hate those damned things, they are just about the ugliest things I know anything about, so I went inside and got the .22 and shot her four times. Why do I feel I have to do this? I don’t suppose she would really bite my toes off when I take a swim. I guess I just want an excuse to shoot my dad’s rifle.
