The Tomboy Suite, 1996
Color coupler prints 16″ x 20″
Plus 21 snapshots of tomboys (family, friends, and found), varying sizes, liquid light on 11″ x 14″ sheet lead
In 1996 I started making The Tomboy Suite, a museum for tomboys—a place, in which the lost histories of hidden desires are made visible and legitimate. A series of framed, colored studio shots of small objects associated with boy’s play, isolated in a small, narrowing stage made of lead, is paired with a grid of snapshots of tomboys, each printed on sheet lead.
